Byzantine matron, 2013
I based this outfit on those from the mosaics in the Ravenna Cathedral - in the mosiac of Empress Theodora, this costume appears in parts on Theodora's ladies-in-waiting. (It was intended to be a character costume for a character embodying "byzantium" - find out more about this in the cosplay section.) This is more costume-y than strictly historical, being intended just to evoke the visual style, and being made of just random materials I had on hand. The shawl was of a very slippery polyester and really just wanted to slide out of place at every opportunity.
