I've been doing costume design since 2010, and I'm averaging one show in a year now, although now I tend to look for opportunities to work on costumes in non-leadership capacities. My default aesthetic tends towards a strong historical grounding, adapted to suit the budget and time-frame of the production. I usually prefer working within parameters set by a director with strong or specific vision, although I also know how to build my own limits. My greatest triumph in costume design is when the actors feel confident and supported by their costume - no perfectly fulfilled vision can ever be satisfying if the actors aren't on board.
